Description
We are proud to have contributed to the development of a new SEN (Special Educational Needs) block at Mesty Croft Primary School, providing essential plastering and drylining services to meet the project’s high standards.
Challenges
Working within the grounds of a live primary school presented several challenges that required careful planning and execution. The safety and well-being of students and staff were our top priorities, so we took extra precautions to minimise disruption during school hours. We implemented strict site management procedures, including working within designated areas, managing noise levels, and ensuring all materials and equipment were safely stored.
Maintaining a clean, organized site was crucial in preventing any hazards, and our team remained flexible to accommodate the school’s schedule, which ensured we kept the daily operations of the school running smoothly. Effective communication with school staff and other contractors was key to ensuring everyone was aware of the project's timeline and any potential changes.
High-Spec Fire Rated and Acoustic Requirements
The SEN block required an exceptionally high specification for both fire safety and acoustic performance. Our team installed specialist plasterboard and drylining systems designed to meet stringent fire-rated regulations, providing enhanced fire protection across the building.
In addition, we applied advanced acoustic insulation solutions to create a peaceful and distraction-free environment for the students. This was particularly important in the SEN setting, where noise reduction plays a significant role in supporting the learning and development of children with special needs. Every aspect of the build was approached with precision and care to ensure it exceeded the regulatory standards.
Results
Beyond the technical and logistical aspects of the job, what truly stands out for us is the satisfaction of knowing our work directly contributes to improving the lives of children. The new SEN block will provide a dedicated space where students can feel comfortable and supported in their learning environment, and being part of such a meaningful project has been incredibly rewarding for our team.
